Earth Wanderer was born from a deep love for people, wild places, culture and the quiet magic of travel done well.
Founded by Jan Tanner, Earth Wanderer creates highly personalised journeys across East Africa for travellers who are looking for something more thoughtful than a standard safari. Our work sits at the intersection of wilderness, conservation, culture and refined hospitality — designing bespoke experiences for discerning travellers, families, founders, collectors and guests who value authenticity as much as comfort.
Jan’s background spans travel, aviation, hospitality and diplomatic protocol, bringing together operational precision, discretion and a genuine sense of care. After many years of travelling through East Africa, and following hands-on experience in the luxury lodge world around Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, the creation of Earth Wanderer came naturally.
We are not interested in mass-market tourism or fixed itineraries. Every journey is shaped around the traveller: their rhythm, interests, expectations and sense of adventure. Whether it is a privately guided gorilla experience, a conservation-led safari, a remote wilderness retreat, a cultural encounter, or a seamless multi-country itinerary, we design each journey with intention.

Earth Wanderer is headquartered in Rwanda — a country close to our heart and ideally positioned between Africa, Europe and beyond. From here, we curate journeys across Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania, combining local knowledge with an international understanding of what sophisticated travellers expect.
